For the atmospheric folk act Superior Siren—which can refer to singer-songwriter/guitarist Laura Sellner and/or the four-piece band they front—being based in the lakeside city Duluth, Minnesota, has made a huge impact on their music. Lake Superior and siren mythology are their muses.

Sellner infuses their solo EP Kill Your Darlings, released in 2021, with an ethereal mystery, exploring the depths of love and how the deeper one dives, the murkier the intentions become—shadows of the self rising from the core. The record received effusive praise, including accolades from revered Duluth artists David Simonett (of Trampled by Turtles) and Charlie Parr.

The track “Love Poem” off Kill Your Darlings explores the complexities of relationships—romantic and platonic. In their new music video for it, Sellner wrestles with emotions that hinder genuine connection, the past holding a person back, how to let go, and how to make peace with the self.

“I wrote ‘Love Poem’ following an argument with a lover,” they explain. “Our relationship triggered wounds within ourselves that were begging to be healed, and I realized there was too much pain in this person's heart for them to allow our love in. I left a handwritten note at their home soon after the argument, which provided closure to our romance. The music video is centered around that ‘love poem.’”

We’re honored to present the exclusive video premiere of “Love Poem.” Watch it below!
