Show Review & Photo Gallery: IV and the Strange Band and The Goddamn Gallows at Appleton Beer Factory in Appleton, WI
Two punk/country bands set the night on fire in downtown Appleton, Wisconsin. Read the review and see a gallery of photos from the show!
It was a quiet Sunday night in downtown Appleton. Who better to break that quiet than IV and the Strange Band and The Goddamn Gallows?
We expected the evening festivities to kick off around 7:30, but found out later IV had a breakdown in Illinois for over nine hours. Luckily everything worked out and, better late than never, the music started a little after 9:00.
IV and the Strange Band hit the ground running by launching into their set with their latest release “Hang Dog,” a song described as the person/thing that is always there when you need it. It set the tone for the night, and really showcased the band's ability and creativity.
The songs that really hit for me were “Deep Down,” “I’m Gonna Haunt You” and a fantastic cover of the Melvin’s “Night Goat.” The originals have made their way into my daily listening since the show, and if you like a little heavier folk music, be sure to check them out.
The Goddamn Gallows took the stage and it was non-stop energy and excitement for the rest of the show. I wasn't sure what to expect with the long-time bassist and founding member Fishgutzzz leaving the band a short few months prior, but the addition of Ronaldo, aka Bunfunfa, was a welcome one. His bass playing is second to none and brings a new energy to the band. I especially loved the interaction between him and Baby G. They played off of each other throughout the night and it was great to see someone new to the group fitting in so well.
The band made its way through their hits, playing “7 Devils,” “Y’all Motherfuckers Need Jesus” and about a dozen others. They finished their set with their latest song, “Let's Join A Cult,” with Baby G on vocals and Jayke switched over to drums.
My Monday morning was rough with the delayed sets, but was well worth it!
