Luke Callen Album Release with Pleasure Horse and Goatroper at Turf Club
At the intersection of Harry Smith’s Old Weird America – the songs of heartworn highways – and the tumult of today you can find the music of Luke Callen. The songs – equal parts tragic comedy and hopeless reverie – paint a picture of the places and people that make up his earthly home. A poet – a player – a folk singer – Luke has traversed his country unraveling tall tales – short tunes and all that’s hidden underneath.
Pleasure Horse began in 2012 with the duo of songwriter Tim Evenson and guitarist Ben Mahowald. Thereafter, the band worked to craft a uniquely Minnesotan brand of country music, implementing the emotive clarity of Townes Van Zandt and a Parsons-esque passion for traditional music. Dave Hoenack of Hymie’s Vintage Records writes, “Pleasure Horse offers just a little of just about everything you’ve ever loved about country music: beer-soaked heartbreak and twang, a little Tex-Mex and a little rock and roll.”
Goatroper is a Good Timing Upper Midwestern outfit from the beautiful city of Minneapolis, MN. Lead by Mike Lee and Abbey Janli - this group blends the traditions of American music with the rhythms of a Honky-Tonk night - featuring tight harmonies - infectious grooves and a sound that'll have you coming back for another helping. They have recently released their first album, Goatroper, in November of 2023, produced by Tim Evenson - 10 songs that'll have you singing and dancing along.
